This week has been a difficult one in the Marcum household. On Tuesday, my beloved mother-in-law passed away. She had been ill for quite a long time, and due to COVID we had not visited in a while, but it doesn’t make it any easier. If anything, an expected death when you didn’t have a chance to say goodbye is more difficult. She was a wonderful woman, and I’ll think of her and miss her every day. The impact that she had on my life and the life of my family is immeasurable, and her influence will continue to resonate throughout the rest of our lives.
Since I haven’t had much time this week, and haven’t had much energy to think too much, I thought that this week I’d give you something special. I mentioned that I don’t have a whole lot of the narrative of the novel completed, but I do have a lot of background taken care of. So, this week, I thought I would give you a sneak peek into the world of the Mark of the Maker series by giving you a glimpse into the world of Buade, the planet where the series takes place.
I hope you enjoy!
Let’s close the post this week with a question. As a writer, I’m always interested to gather some insight about what readers like in the books they read. So tell me – who is your favorite book character? What book did the character come from? Why is this character your favorite?
I’ve just started reading a Warhammer 40K book by Sandy Mitchell, and one of his main characters is Ciaphas Cain. I love him because he’s not the typical hero, and often wants to be away from the action, but trouble always just seems to find him.
It’s similar to Rincewind in the Discworld series. I think it’s a British thing. Anyway, thanks for this post!

Hi Stuart! Thank you for your answer! Rincewind is one of my absolute favorite characters, as well, and I’m an enormous fan of Sir Terry Pratchett. I’ll have to look into the Warhammer books! Thanks again!
